UNWIND

I ended up going with option 1, because when I went back to Morris & Sons I realised the colours in the photo I posted came out more saturated. So I spent another few hours in the shop mulling over which combination I would go with, and decided on number 1. (I apologise if I have upset anyone with my decision!) I've posted a photo of the first 3 triangles I've made for this new throw, and guess what - the colours didn't turn out again! Here it looks like mustard, navy and red when in true fact it's more of a lime green, a purpley-blue and magenta. The names of the yarn are Limelight, Storm and Petunia. I wonder who gets the wonderful job of naming yarns... I wouldn't mind that job one bit!

On Saturday, D and I went for brunch at The Commons. Going for brunch happens once in a blue moon, because he doesn't particularly like breakfast foods, or drinking coffee out of home (what!?). I on the other hand, love breakfast foods and coffee (especially at cafés), so this was a nice little treat for me! The Commons is such a pretty place, which is a café during the day and turns into a restaurant/bar at night. It's full of plants, wooden tables and chairs, filtered sunlight and even has a fireplace. So very dreamy.

WEEKEND IN PICTURES

I bought a vintage brooch with my initial in Newtown, my old neighbourhood, which changes every time I go back for a visit. It is fast filling up with chain stores and many of the cafes and shops with so much character that used to define Newtown are closing down one by one... I did not make it in time to A Coffee and a Yarn as it is now closed down, and can only hope that some of my favourite shops that are still standing will remain...

I started using some of the new yarn I purchased for my crochet throw project. It is obvious that when I was crocheting the mint green granny square, I was highly strung as it was mid-work week. While  I was crocheting the purple granny square, I was nice and relaxed as I was having drinks and joking with one of my good friends on the weekend... The grey granny square was made on Sunday which shows hints of anxiety (about the work week starting) leaking through my calm weekend disposition.

Reuben Hills did not fail me again, as I caught up with a high school friend whom I have not seen since 2003! My most favourite cafe at the moment, but also the most crowded!

Watched Moon Holiday, who is now a two-piece band...

...and Devotional, whom I love and remind me of Twin Peaks...

...both at Hotel Hollywood, that recently has started inviting bands to play,
which I am very glad about as it is so close to my apartment.

This French Onion Soup did not happen on the weekend, but is a nice start to the new week.
I successfully cooked it but will try to add less salt next time. You can find the recipe here.

SUNDAY

More green food today...

Warm glass noodles and edamame beans

I found this recipe in Plenty by Yottam Ottolenghi - the best cookbook I have ever purchased! It is full of delicious vegetarian recipes that are so appetising that even D, who loves his meat, asks me to cook from this cookbook. It was hard to justify buying all the exact ingredients for this recipe, so we substituted some of the ingredients with their more common cousins we already had in the pantry. We used brown sugar instead of palm sugar, olive oil instead of sunflower oil and groundnut oil, and used a lot less lime than suggested (2 and a half instead of 4!). After all of that, the dish still turned out delicious! Perfect for a summer lunch or if you are going for a picnic! Super easy to make too...

Earlier in the day, we went to check out the Rock 'n Roll & Alternative Market at the Jets Sport Club in Tempe. Claire had her Fifties Frock stall up so we kept her company. I was surrounded by so many cute and adorable things that I just had to buy more than I should have...

Pretty vintage china plates made in Japan to add to my plate collection.
Two for $10!!! What a bargain.

Cute flower stud earrings.

A wired polkadot headband and a pair of cat-eye glasses!

SATURDAY : OFF DAY

The weather decided to be very fickle today. At first, I thought it was going to be a perfect beach day (which we haven't had in a very long time in Sydney, even though it is summer!). By the time I got out of bed, it was overcast! We decided not to take the chance and went for brunch at Le Monde instead - it's on D's walking route to his new job.

Potato Hash at Le Monde
(we ordered the same thing)

Afterwards, we went grocery shopping and ended up having very ambitious ideas for dinner and dessert!

Beetroot and Danish Feta salad

Four lime pie

During Christmas last year, I attempted the same pie but added the zest and juice of four limes. It turned out very sour and very bitter. This time around, I decided to still have the juice of four limes but with only the zest of one. It turned out a lot less bitter and more delicious! You can find the easy recipe here. (Note: we didn't use key limes, but ordinary limes)
